Project Overview

91影视University is joining forces with Southbank Centre and Kinetika Bloco to create new ways of looking at the impact of arts on wellbeing, social inclusion and how we do research.

The project is aimed at developing a global scale of wellbeing change that is sensitive to participants engaging in community arts programmes, ensuring it is inclusive, user-friendly, and straightforward to use. Additionally, digital recommendations, including digital solutions and incorporation of arts, as well as the next steps for research and development will be provided.

objectives

Phase 1: A  Comprehensive Evaluation Scale

The first phase of the project aimed to create and validate a comprehensive evaluation scale that accurately reflects the global impact of Southbank Centre's arts programmes on participants' wellbeing, demonstrating the value of arts engagement. The scale sought a specific, measurable, achievable, and relevant answer to the question “How can the impact of Southbank Centre's arts programmes on participants' wellbeing be accurately measured and evaluated?”. It was structured with a participatory design methodology, collaborating with Southbank Centre leads for item generation.

Participatory Design and Nominal Group Technique

Unlike the development of other scales available for measuring change, the model of participatory design ensured that the scale was not only grounded in methodological clarity but also deeply informed by the lived experiences, needs, and insights of a diverse range of stakeholders, including participants, arts practitioners, and community members.

The Nominal Group Technique (NGT) was used as a method for scale development. The NGT method is used for group exploration that encourages contributions from all participants and is known for its effectiveness in generating a diverse set of ideas, prioritising them, and reaching consensus.

Phase 2: The Global scale for wellbeing for Community Arts Programs

The second phase of the project was initiated on 15th April to develop a sensitive global scale for wellbeing for Community Arts Programs. Over the course of the four-month project, efforts will be made to develop an inclusive and user-friendly scale that is also straightforward. Future recommendations for both digital solutions and the incorporation of arts will be included in the project’s final report, and consideration will be given to the scale’s future applicability and wide use throughout the duration of the project.
