Summary

Shirley is a Lecturer in Public Health in the Division of Global Public Health, Department of Health Sciences, 91影视University London. Her research interests include infectious diseases, health policy evaluation, health promotion and stakeholder research.

Her recent research acitivities include evaluating the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the WHO flagship program, FCTC2030, and developing a Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) for the Hillingdon Council in 2021.

Shirley’s work on the determinants of long COVID and prolonged COVID-19-related hospitalisations in Ghana provided preliminary evidence that advanced Ghana's policy discourses on COVID-19 mitigation.

She was awarded a presidential honour by the President of Ghana in 2023 for her distinguised contribution to addressing the burden of COVID-19 in Ghana.   

Before joining Brunel, She was the head of the physiotherapy department at the Ga East Municipal Hospital in Ghana, contributing to establishing a full-fledged physiotherapy department in the municipality. She was also among the team that established physiotherapy departments in the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital and La General Hospital in Ghana.

Shirley was the co-chair and Doctoral Researcher (DR) Rep on Brunel’s PGR Student Experience Committee (SEC) and the DR Rep for the Department of Health Sciences’s Research Ethics Committee.

She is a Chevening Scholar and a member of the Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD).
